Privacy notice
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This notice explains how SolidBuilders ("we", "us") uses personal data, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are the data controller.
Contact: SolidBuilders, Plassey St, Cardiff CF64 1AN. Email info@solidbuilders.co.uk, phone 07450 515159.
1. Quote requests and enquiries
When you use the quote form on this website, call or message us, we collect the details you give us: your name, phone number, email address (if given), postcode, the type of job, your message and any photos you choose to attach. Photos are resized and their hidden location data (EXIF) is removed when they are received.
- Why: to reply to you, arrange a visit and prepare a quote.
- Lawful basis: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)), and our legitimate interest in running our business (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Where it is kept: in our private business system, which is hosted by our web hosting provider and protected by login. Only SolidBuilders staff who need it can see it.
- How long: if you don't go ahead, we delete enquiry details within 12 months. If you become a customer, we keep job and invoice records for as long as the law requires (normally 6 years for tax purposes).
We don't sell your details, and we don't use them for marketing unless you ask us to.
2. Letters to planning applicants
Local councils publish planning applications on public registers. We look at these registers to find building projects in South Wales that we may be able to help with.
- What we use: the applicant name (if shown), the site address, the planning reference and a short description of the proposed work, all taken from the public register.
- How we contact you: by a single letter posted to the site address. We do not use planning information to email, phone or text anyone.
- Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in letting people with an approved or pending building project know about our services (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). We have balanced this against your interests: the information is already public, contact is by post only, and you can opt out at any time.
- How long: if you don't reply, we delete these details within 90 days.
- Opting out: contact us using the details above and we will stop writing to you. We keep only the minimum needed (the address) on a "do not contact" list so we don't write again.
3. Cookies
This website uses one essential cookie (SBSITE) to protect the quote form from misuse. It is deleted when you close your browser. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
4. Google reviews
The reviews shown on our home page come from our Google Business Profile and are provided by Google. Clicking "Leave us a review on Google" takes you to Google, whose own privacy policy applies.
5. Who we share data with
Only the service providers we need to run the business, such as our web host and email provider, and anyone we are legally required to share with (for example HMRC). They may only use it on our instructions.
6. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict how we use it, or object to us using it. You have an absolute right to object to direct marketing. Contact us using the details above; we will respond within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, phone 0303 123 1113.
